Easy & Simple DIY Mouse Trap Tutorial

No one ever wants to have lots of mice running around their homes because first of all, they carry diseases, and they can get your food spoiled or infected, worst of all, if they peed on an area or place with water and you happen to use the same water, then you are at a very high risk of contracting leptospirosis. One way to drive them away or get rid of them is by using solutions that are poisonous for them, however, one problem that you will have to face is them dying in the corners of your house that are hard to reach. So, the other option that you have is by setting up a trap, then getting rid of all of them easier because they are all caught in one bucket. Materials:

  • Tall bucket
  • Rear grill of an old electric fan
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick
  • Barley

Directions:

Step 1

Prepare or find a container or bucket that is tall enough that the mouse that you’ll catch won’t be able to jump and get out. Next, fill the bottom of the bucket with a generous amount of barley or any food that you want to use as bait. You can also smear some jelly or anything that is slippery so that when the mouse tries to climb up, it will slide back down. Once you’re contented with the inside, grab an old electric fan’s rear grill, then place it on top of the bucket, and use it as the lid.

Step 2

Now, seal the rear grill to the bucket by dabbing an ample amount of hot glue all around the sides of the rim, then find a large piece of cardboard, but you can also use scrap wood if you want, and create stairs for the mouse to climb onto. Adhere the stairs at the side of the bucket using hot glue, then place the mouse trap in the infested area or where there are a lot of mice, and sprinkle more barleys in the surrounding area of the mouse trap. Leave it overnight and check how many you’ve managed to catch in the morning!
