Dine 909: Escape Craft Brewery, Claremont Craft Ales winners at Great American Beer Festival

Inland Empire breweries took home just two awards at this year’s Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony, which took place Friday, Sept. 10.

Escape Craft Brewery in Redlands won a bronze award in the American-Style Strong Pale Ale for Civil Disturbance, and Claremont Craft Ales also won a bronze in the Strong Red Ale category for Happy Days.

The festival, usually held in Denver, Colorado, was held virtually for the second year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, Claremont Craft Ales was the sole Inland Empire brewery to medal, taking home two gold medals.

Claremont Craft Ales also won three awards in the U.S. Open Beer Championship, based in Oxford, Ohio. Winners were announced Sept. 6.

The brewery won silver for Jacaranda in the English India Pale Ale category, Pepper & Peaches in the Specialty IPA, and bronze for Nine in the Light IPA/Session IPA category.

BeerFarm turns three

Riverside Food Lab craft beer bar BeerFarm will celebrate its third anniversary from 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday, Sept. 18.

There aren’t many details known about the non-ticketed event, but the bar is promising “Beer, Food, Music and Merch” on its social media feeds.

BeerFarm is at 3605 Market St., Riverside.

Help fight hunger

September is Hunger Action Month, and two chains in the Inland Empire are teaming up with No Kid Hungry to raise funds for the organization, which is dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America.

BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse is teaming with No Kid Hungry for the seventh year.

Guests who dine at BJ’s in September and donate $1 or more will receive a coupon good for a free Pizookie on a future visit.

The Habit Burger Grill is also raising funds for the organization by asking its customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar.

The overages will benefit No Kid Hungry.

Guests can round up in-store, online, or via the chain’s app through Oct. 21.

ZPizza TapRoom opens

We’ve been waiting at least since the beginning of 2020 for the Zpizza Tap Room at 12930 Day St., Suite 107, Moreno Valley, to open.

It’s finally open.

Hours are 3-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Punch flight

It seems like there’s a day for everything and Monday, Sept. 20, is National Punch Day.

Fittingly, Punch Bowl Social is offering a special $10 punch flight all day on that day.

The flight consists of three punches:

  • Watermelon Polo Punch: Reposado tequila, Teakoe’s watermelon spearmint tea, watermelon shrub, house-made strawberry syrup, and fresh lime juice
  • Featured Punch: Cruzan rum, coconut rum, pomegranate green tea, orange syrup, and fresh lemon juice
  • I’m on a Whiskey Diet: Bourbon whiskey, pear chamomile tea, blueberry syrup, honey, and fresh lemon juice
