Best Gas Grills to Buy at Home Depot

Highly rated gas grills available at Home Depot at a range of prices—plus one model to avoid

By Paul Hope

More than 50 percent of gas grills sold in the U.S. come from the home center giants Home Depot and Lowe’s. Home Depot alone carries hundreds of models, many of which can be found on the floor of your local store. Of course, not every grill it sells is a winner.

Consumer Reports tests dozens of new gas grill models every year—if you’re unsure which size you need or which features to look for, start with our grill buying guide. CR members can also jump right in to our complete gas grill ratings to compare models.

No matter how you prefer to shop, Home Depot has good options. A typical store has dozens of in-stock models, and the retailer has more than 300 models on its website. It also offers curbside pickup. With either of these options, be ready to tackle assembly yourself.

“Home Depot offers an exceptionally broad selection of models, particularly online,” says Mark Allwood, a CR market analyst who oversees grills. “The website tends to include offerings from really premium brands as well, including Napoleon.”

If Home Depot is your go-to, this guide will help you narrow your selection and steer clear of the losers. For more grill recommendations across specific retailers, check out our expert picks for the best gas grills at Lowe’s and the best gas grills at Walmart.

To ensure we test the same grills available to you, Consumer Reports’ secret shoppers purchase each one we test, either in-store or online. Here’s their checklist for making your grill shopping a smooth experience:

  • Check inventory online before you shop. The grill you want might be in a store near you. If it’s not, Home Depot will ship it free of charge to a store where you can pick it up, potentially saving you an extra trip.
  • Check the grill’s dimensions. This step is especially important if you’re buying a grill to fit a small space. You can look up dimensions on Home Depot’s website or on the grill’s summary page in our gas grill ratings.
  • Check your cargo space. You’ll need an SUV or a pickup to haul the grill home if you buy it in-store. You can also rent a truck at some store locations (often priced at $19 for the first 75 minutes) or pay to have the retailer deliver an assembled grill.
  • Check the box before you start assembling the grill. Make sure all the parts are included and nothing is broken or damaged. If something is missing, call Home Depot’s customer service (800-466-3337). If the wait for a replacement is too long, you might try calling the manufacturer directly and pleading your case to get it sooner.

Best Gas Grills at Home Depot

We test grills from nearly every brand sold at the retailer, including Dyna-Glo, Huntington, KitchenAid, Nexgrill, Napoleon, and Weber. Below, we’ve compiled a list of the very best gas grills at Home Depot, including models from our latest tests, as well as one gas grill to avoid.

However, don’t assume that Home Depot will always offer the best deal. It’s possible that competing retailers might stock the same model at a lower price.

Best Small Gas Grills at Home Depot

Permasteel PG-40301-BK

CR’s take: The compact, low-priced Permasteel PG-40301-BK is a solid choice all around. It offers strong performance in all our crucial performance tests, including Very Good ratings for evenness of heating, temperature range, and indirect cooking—and an Excellent score for preheat performance. It has three burners, an electronic ignition, and two side shelves.

Weber Spirit E-210 46110001

CR’s take: The Weber Spirit E-210 46110001 is a spiffy, well-polished grill in a small package. It earns a rating of Very Good for evenness performance, our most crucial performance test. Weber is also near the front of the pack when it comes to owner satisfaction and brand reliability, with ratings of Excellent for each.

Royal Gourmet MG3000

CR’s take: The budget-friendly Nexgrill 720-1012 packs a lot of grill into a modest package. It performs well across the board, with a rating of Excellent for preheat performance and sturdiness, as well as Very Good ratings for evenness of heating, temperature range, and indirect cooking. This model has only two wheels, which makes it a bit less convenient to maneuver.

Best Midsized Gas Grills at Home Depot

Weber Genesis Smart Grill EPX-335 35810001

CR’s take: The midsized Weber Genesis Smart Grill EPX-335 is a high-end grill packed with bells and whistles, and backed up by great performance. It earns scores of Very Good for evenness and temperature range, and Excellent ratings for convenience, indirect cooking, and sturdiness. The Smart Grill also comes with a temperature probe and pizza insert, and moves around on four wheels to make it easy to position.

Weber Genesis II E-310

CR’s take: The Weber Genesis II E-310 is a midsized grill with three burners and top-tier performance. It earns ratings of Very Good for heating evenness and temperature range, and its indirect cooking receives an Excellent score. As a brand, Weber makes some of the most reliable gas grills: They earned a rating of Excellent for both predicted reliability and owner satisfaction in our member surveys.

Nexgrill 720-1046 (Home Depot)

CR’s take: The Nexgrill 720-1046 is a reasonably priced midsized grill that gets the CR’s recommendation. In our testing, it earns Excellent ratings for sturdiness, indirect cooking, and preheat performance, and Very Good scores for evenness and temperature range. It has coated cast-iron grates and four casters for easier moving, as well as five main burners and a side burner.

Best Large Gas Grills at Home Depot

Monument Grills 77352

CR’s take: The Monument Grills 77352 Grill is not only a good large grill for the money but also the best large grill in our ratings. It earns strong ratings across the board, most notably with Excellent scores for preheat time, heating evenness, and temperature range. Plus, it comes with an 8-year warranty on its six stainless steel main burners.

Weber Summit E-670

CR’s take: If you’re looking for a large-sized premium grill, the Weber Summit E-670 delivers every bell and whistle, along with top-notch performance—for a price. It has six main burners, a side burner, a built-in fuel gauge, a smoker box, and even a rotisserie. It heats quickly and evenly, and cooks at an exceptionally broad range of temperatures. In fact, with a rating of Excellent in our temperature range test, it’s well-suited for grilling just about anything you can dream up.

Fuego Premium 3 Burners F36S

CR’s take: The Fuego Premium 3 Burners F36S gas grill offers serious performance on a grand scale. The 630-square-inch cooking surface is the largest of any model we’ve tested, and the grill earns Excellent ratings for heating evenness, temperature range, indirect cooking, and sturdiness. It’s less likely than other models to flare up with fatty foods on the grill, but it’s missing a few features you might expect on such a high-end model, such as a side burner or a fuel gauge.

Lowest-Scoring Grill at Home Depot

KitchenAid 720-0953 (Home Depot)

CR’s take: This KitchenAid 720-0953 is a refined-looking midsized grill with only lackluster performance. It’s a Home Depot exclusive, and while it earns ratings of Good for evenness and temperature range, you can do better for the money. Another knock: KitchenAid gas grills received subpar ratings for owner satisfaction in CR’s member surveys.
