Bag of Rice Project #139 -A visit to the Nwagwu family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Nwagwu family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tiffany Guillory this is the 139th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their church leader who also acted as our translator. The Nwagwu family live in a two bedroom mud house and they have their other house utilities outside the house. Mrs Ahidu Nwagwu is the matriach of this family. She is a widow and has 5 kids. She is currently living with one of her daughters whose husband just died.

The Nwagwus cook with firewood on the floor. Firewood is the cheapest form of cooking and most poor families in Nigeria use it. Mrs Nwagwu is a farmer and she grows corn which she in turn sells to send her grandchildren to school. Her children also help her when they are around. She has been struggling in this economy and finding food for her family to eat has been a daunting task for her.

Meeting this wonderful family was a pleasure of ours. They could not speak English very well but from their faces they appreciated our visit and were thoroughly happy that we came. They thanked those who donated for them and prayed for their continued success in life. I was glad to meet this family and I know this bag of Rice will help and affect this family for life.
