Bag of Rice Project #117 -A visit to the Titus family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Titus family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Deborah Miller this is the 117th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This special family lives in a village outside of Uyo, Nigeria. We met them through their Village chief who acted as our translator. Mrs Titus lives in a dilapidated mud house that broke my heart to see. Part of the mud house is literally falling apart and she still stays in it. Mrs Titus is a widow whose husband died years ago and she has 2 kids. It was hard to communicate with her because she could not speak English but I did not need words to know that this family needed serious help.

  • Their house

Mrs Titus does not have a kitchen and she explained to us that she cooks by the side of their her house in the open and only covers it when its about to rain. She uses firewood to cook. She really lives in poor conditions and I did not even take pictures of inside her house which managed to look as bad as the outside. She does not have a farm, so to take care of her family she works on other peoples farms and they pay her everyday she does.

  • Their kitchen

This family probably deserves this bag of Rice more than any other family. I could not believe my eyes when I saw where they were staying and how they were surviving, especially in this pandemic where everything is now expensive. Mrs Titus was very very happy with the bag of Rice, she kept thanking us repeatedly. I am sure that this gift will make a huge difference to this family and I’m glad that we were directed to this family.
